Connection: Verb volitional form + にも + same verb potential negative form
Usage: Expresses that even though one wants to do something, circumstances make it impossible. Conveys frustration or helplessness.
Nuance: Emphasizes the gap between desire/intention and reality. The speaker would do it if they could, but they simply cannot.
Examples:
逃げようにも逃げられない状況だった。(It was a situation where I wanted to escape but couldn't.)
泣こうにも涙が出なかった。(I wanted to cry but no tears would come.)
眠ろうにも眠れないほど心配だった。(I was so worried that I couldn't sleep even though I wanted to.)
