ば〜たで
ba ~ ta de
if ... then that brings its own (issues)
[If ... then that brings its own ...]
Connection: Verb ば form + (same or related verb) た + で
Usage: Similar to たら〜たで, this pattern expresses that if a certain condition is met, it creates its own set of issues or consequences. Essentially a conditional form meaning "even if that happens, there are still problems."
Nuance: Often used to express frustration that neither option is ideal.
Examples:
行けば行ったで文句を言われるし、行かなければ行かないで怒られる。(If I go, I get complaints; if I don't go, I get scolded.)
安ければ安いで品質が心配だ。(If it's cheap, then being cheap makes me worry about quality.)
勝てば勝ったで、次の試合のプレッシャーが大きくなる。(If I win, then winning brings greater pressure for the next match.)
