[Even if not... at least]

Connection: Verb ない form + までも

Usage: Expresses that even if the ideal or full extent of something cannot be achieved, at least a lesser degree should be done. Sets a concession before stating a minimum expectation.

Examples:

完璧でないまでも、もう少し丁寧にやってほしい。(Even if it's not perfect, I'd like you to do it a bit more carefully.)

毎日でないまでも、週に三回は運動したほうがいい。(Even if not every day, you should exercise at least three times a week.)

賛成しないまでも、反対はしないでほしい。(Even if you don't agree, I'd like you not to oppose it.)
