zu jimai
ended up not doing
[Ended up not doing]
Usage: Expresses that something one intended or wanted to do was ultimately never accomplished. Carries a feeling of regret or disappointment that the action was left undone.
Nuance: Stronger sense of regret than simply using なかった. Implies the speaker had the intention but circumstances prevented it.
Examples:
(Even though I went all the way to Kyoto, I ended up not seeing Kinkakuji.)
(I returned the borrowed book without ever reading it.)
(I had something I wanted to say, but in the end I never said it.)
