Usage: Expresses that something is difficult to do, especially from an emotional or psychological standpoint. More formal than にくい, and implies near-impossibility.
Common combinations: 信じがたい (hard to believe), 許しがたい (hard to forgive), 理解しがたい (hard to understand), 耐えがたい (hard to endure), 得がたい (hard to obtain)
Difference from にくい: にくい is physical/practical difficulty; がたい is emotional/psychological.
