Verb て-form + みる

[To Try Doing]

Connection:

• Verb て-form + みる: 食べてみる (try eating)
• Expresses trying something to see what happens or how it is

How to form:

• Group 1 (五段): 読む → 読んでみる (try reading)
• Group 2 (一段): 食べる → 食べてみる (try eating)
• Irregular: する → してみる, 来る → 来てみる

てみる vs ようとする:

• てみる = try doing (to experience/test the result)
• ようとする = try to do / attempt (effort to do, may not succeed)
• Example: 食べてみる (taste it and see) vs 食べようとする (attempt to eat)

Conjugation:

• みる conjugates as Group 2 verb: みます/みた/みない/みて

Examples:

• この料理を食べてみてください (Please try eating this dish)
• 新しい方法を試してみます (I'll try a new method)
• 一度日本に行ってみたいです (I want to try going to Japan once)
