Usage: Expresses a simile or metaphor, indicating that something appears as if it were something else, even though it is not actually so. More literary and emphatic than plain ようだ.

Variations:

• かのように (adverbial): まるで夢であるかのように消えた (vanished as if it were a dream)
• かのような + Noun: 嵐が来たかのような騒ぎ (a commotion as if a storm had come)
