[Invitation: won't you ~? / would you like to ~?]
Connection: Verb stem +
How to form:
- Group 2: 食べる → 食べませんか (would you like to eat?)
- Group 1: 行く → 行きませんか (won't you go?); 飲む → 飲みませんか (would you like to drink?)
- ませんか = softer, asking the other person's preference: 映画を見ませんか (Would you like to see a movie?)
- ましょう = more decisive, proposing an action: 映画を見ましょう (Let's see a movie!)
Responding:
(Sounds good, let's go)
(Sorry, it's a bit…)
Examples:
(Would you like to have tea together?)
(Won't you go out with me this weekend?)
