たり〜たりする

[Listing actions: do things like ~ and ~]

Connection: Verb た-form + り + (Verb た-form + り +) する

Lists representative actions, implying there are other things too (similar to や for nouns).

How to form:

• Group 2: 食べる → 食べたり; 見る → 見たり
• Group 1: 読む → 読んだり; 聞く → 聞いたり; 買う → 買ったり
• Irregular: する → したり; くる → きたり

Structure: V1たり V2たり します

• 週末は映画を見たり、本を読んだりします (On weekends I do things like watching movies and reading books)

Also works with adjectives:

• い-adj: 暑かったり寒かったりします (It's sometimes hot, sometimes cold)
• な-adj: 静かだったりうるさかったりします (It's sometimes quiet, sometimes noisy)

Note: する at the end conjugates for tense: した (past), しました (polite past)

Examples:

• 休みの日は料理をしたり、散歩したりします (On days off I cook, take walks, etc.)
• 天気が良かったり悪かったりでした (The weather was good and bad — varied)
