Connection: Verb dictionary form + や否や

Usage: Indicates that the second action occurs immediately after the first, with virtually no time gap. Very similar to が早いか. Literary and formal expression commonly found in written narratives.

Examples:

目が覚めるや否や、彼は飛び起きた。(No sooner had he woken up than he jumped out of bed.)

試合が終わるや否や、観客は立ち上がって拍手した。(As soon as the match ended, the spectators stood up and applauded.)

知らせを聞くや否や、彼女は病院に駆けつけた。(The moment she heard the news, she rushed to the hospital.)
