もらう means "to receive" and is part of the giving/receiving verb triad in Japanese (あげる/くれる/もらう).
Pattern: A は B に/から (object) を もらう = A receives (object) from B
The receiver (A) is marked with は or が, and the giver (B) is marked with に or から. The speaker or speaker's in-group is usually the receiver.
