じゃない

[な-adjective negative: not ~]

Rule: Stem + じゃない (casual) / じゃないです (polite) / ではありません (formal)

Examples:

• 静か → 静かじゃない (not quiet)
• 元気 → 元気じゃない (not well/energetic)
• 好き → 好きじゃない (don't like)
• きれい → きれいじゃない (not beautiful)
• 上手 → 上手じゃない (not skillful)

Politeness levels:

• 静かじゃない (casual)
• 静かじゃないです (polite)
• 静かじゃありません (polite formal)
• 静かではありません (formal written)

Note: な-adjectives conjugate exactly like nouns. The な only appears when modifying a noun.

Examples:

• ここはあまり静かじゃないです (It's not very quiet here)
• 私は料理が上手じゃありません (I'm not good at cooking)
