Connection: Verb plain form + のは + Noun/Adjective + だ/です
Uses の to turn a verb clause into a noun, then は marks it as the topic.
How to use:
- 日本語を勉強するのは楽しいです (Studying Japanese is fun)
- ここに来るのは初めてです (It's my first time coming here)
- 一番大切なのは健康です (The most important thing is health)
Also works with が instead of は:
- 日本語を勉強するのが好きです (I like studying Japanese)
Can use こと instead of の (more formal):
- 日本語を勉強することは大切です (Studying Japanese is important — formal)
Examples:
- 朝早く起きるのは大変です (Getting up early in the morning is tough)
- この漢字を覚えるのは難しいです (Memorizing this kanji is difficult)
- 日本に行くのが夢です (Going to Japan is my dream)
