[Even if / Even though (literary)]

Connection: Noun + とて / Clause (plain form) + とて

Usage: A literary/archaic expression meaning "even if" or "even though." Similar to でも or としても but much more formal and written. Can also mean "saying that" (quoting reason).

Examples:

いかに努力したとて、結果が出ないこともある。(Even if you try hard, there are times when results don't come.)

子供とて、そのくらいのことはわかる。(Even a child can understand something like that.)

忙しいとて、食事を抜くのはよくない。(Even if you're busy, it's not good to skip meals.)
