日本語学習 [To Give (to me/us)]
Connection:
- Person + が + Noun + を + くれる: 友達が本をくれた (my friend gave me a book)
- Giver が, object を
The Giving Triad:
- あげる = I/we give to others (away from speaker)
- くれる = others give to me/us (toward speaker)
- もらう = I/we receive from others (receiver's perspective)
Key nuance:
- Implies gratitude or benefit to speaker/in-group
- Cannot use if speaker is the giver
- For receiving from superiors, use くださる (honorific form)
Examples:
- 姉が新しい服をくれました (My older sister gave me new clothes)
- 友達がチョコレートをくれた (My friend gave me chocolate)
- 先生が辞書をくれました (The teacher gave me a dictionary)
